Ok, now you know how to securely open the bolt on an M1 Garand Rifle properly to avoid getting the M1 Thumb.
Step two is loading the en-bloc clip without getting the M1 Thumb! Easy! Just follow these simple steps and trust yourself and you will have no problems.
1) Load the clip with dummy rounds so you can practice this until you feel comfortable. If you don’t know where to get dummy rounds send me an email and I will give you the gouge on that.
2) Carefully place the loaded clip into the rifle after you have securely opened the bolt. In the picture below you will see what it should look like.
3) Firmly push down on the clip with your thumb making sure it goes all the way down until you hear the clip ‘seat’ in place at the bottom. DO NOT LET PRESSURE OFF THE CLIP! You will know it is all the way down because it won’t go any further. See the photo series below…
4) Now, quickly and deliberately (with a rapid motion) pull your thumb up and out allowing the bolt to close. This quick motion will get your thumb out of the way before the bolt closes. Note: If you are uncertain hold the bolt back with your other hand as you remove your thumb and then slowly close it with a gradual release that you completely control with your hand.
There you have it! A fully loaded M1 Garand ready to go! Be SAFE and have fun! Please add a comment, watch one of our videos and share this with a friend. Don’t forget to subscribe to our blog and youtube channel!
