A few years ago I purchased a Glock 19 and have found it to be a very good handgun that is reliable, accurate (for a smaller pistol) and fun to shoot.
It feels good in my hand and is small enough to be a conceal carry although much bigger than a Ruger LCP and other very small pistols. I prefer the 19 to those types simply because I feel that I have much more control of the weapon and much better accuracy. I can actually hit the target with the Glock 19!
The 19 is also a very simple pistol to do a quick field strip on after shooting. You can literally take it apart in 15 seconds or less. Do a quick cleaning and you are back together in no time. The Glock 19 must be the easier field strip pistol there is!
This post will give a brief description on how to do a basic disassemble and reassemble (simple field strip) of the Glock 19. I also include some pictures and a short video for your enjoyment.
Step 1: Make sure the magazine is out and the weapon is cleared. Meaning there are no rounds in the firearm.
Step 2: Point the pistol at the ground and pull the trigger making sure it is released
Step 3: Located the two ‘release levers’, one on each side of the weapon. See Picture Below
Step 4: Place your right hand on top of the pistol in the manner shown in the picture below. Of course, if you are left handed use your left hand.
Step 5: Slightly pull back on the top part of the pistol moving it about a quarter of an inch or so.
Step 6: While holding the top of the pistol back push down on the two release levers with your thumb and index finger.
Step 7: Slide the top of the pistol off.
Step 8: Remove the recoil spring and barrell.
Step 9: Clean the weapon of any grit and grim.
Step 10: Lightly lubricate the metal parts of the pistol.
Step 11: Reassemble the pistol in the reverse order that you took it apart.
That is it! You are done with a basic field strip and ready to go shoot.
